{"id":59,"date":"2016-11-20T04:34:00","date_gmt":"2016-11-20T03:34:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/thehonestrational.com\/wp\/2016\/11\/20\/so-where-then-do-we-go\/"},"modified":"2020-07-25T16:27:12","modified_gmt":"2020-07-25T15:27:12","slug":"so-where-then-do-we-go","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/thehonestrational.com\/wp\/2016\/11\/20\/so-where-then-do-we-go\/","title":{"rendered":"So where then do we go"},"content":{"rendered":"<div dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: left;\">The immigrant life.<br \/>What does it entail?<\/p>\n<p>Leaving the familiar<br \/>For a new home.<\/p>\n<p>Having your heart set<br \/>In a new hope.<\/p>\n<p>Waking to your last day<br \/>Before your trip starts.<br \/>Taking in the surroundings<br \/>As you sigh<br \/>In anticipation<br \/>Of what is to come<br \/>And in anticipation<br \/>Of what you will forgo.<br \/>All your neighbors<br \/>Friends, family<br \/>Forgoing their waves<br \/>Their hugs, their smiles.<br \/>How they will change<br \/>As you are away.<br \/>How you will miss them<br \/>As you climb aboard.<\/p>\n<p>Taking your first step<br \/>Towards a distant land.<\/p>\n<p>How your mind replays<br \/>All the comforts<br \/>That you have known<br \/>As you fall into<br \/>A restful slumber<br \/>&#8220;This life will be better in my new home.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>A blast of cold air<br \/>Wakes you rudely<br \/>A chill in your heart<br \/>As you step off<\/p>\n<p>Smiling faces greet you<br \/>In a strange accent,<br \/>Barely allowing you<br \/>To laugh along at their jokes.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;My new home!&#8221;<br \/>You smile proudly<br \/>You grin, with joy<br \/>Overflowing that you made it.<\/p>\n<p>With your life in your hands<br \/>You follow your host<br \/>Walking briskly, quickly<br \/>Elbowing through the crowds.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;My new life!&#8221;<br \/>You stand in line.<br \/>And another.<br \/>And another.<\/p>\n<p>People are still smiling,<br \/>But their eyes-<br \/>They never follow,<br \/>Never making contact.<br \/>Their faces look worried<br \/>That you are now here.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It will be better here.&#8221;<br \/>You meet new friends<br \/>From all places, all faiths<br \/>All colours, all traits,<br \/>All having journeyed from afar.<\/p>\n<p>All who have felt close hugs<br \/>As much as distant stares<br \/>All who have witnessed open conversation<br \/>As much as closed whispers<br \/>All who have seen those rare true smiles<br \/>As much as the scared, worried frowns.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The streets are beautiful!&#8221;<br \/>Some say, &#8220;welcome,&#8221;<br \/>And open their doors<br \/>Others say nothing<br \/>Still angry from a past foreigner<br \/>Who had raped their sister.<br \/>You want to say<br \/>That the man should be tried as a criminal,<br \/>And that criminals exist in all groups,<br \/>Not just immigrant groups.<br \/>Even in King David&#8217;s family &#8211;<br \/>There was&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=2+Samuel+13&amp;version=NIV\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Amnon<\/a>, and poor Tamar.<\/p>\n<p>You say nothing<br \/>They say nothing<br \/>As you pass by<br \/>To stand in line<br \/>And another<br \/>And another. Sunset.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This is a new life!&#8221;<br \/>You take photos<br \/>You cook food<br \/>The way you know how<\/p>\n<p>And eat with others<br \/>Who have journeyed with you<br \/>A girl says she is afraid<br \/>To bring your food to school<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;What will they say?<br \/>I don&#8217;t want to be different.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>You wonder what she means,<br \/>As you think differences are good,<br \/>But we all have the same need<br \/>All get hungry,<br \/>And all need to eat.<br \/>Are not all equally in need of bread?<br \/>Are not all equal<br \/>In the eyes of God?<\/p>\n<p>You read <a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Galatians+3%3A28&amp;version=KJV\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Galatians 3:28<\/a><br \/>Asking why then<br \/>Would your neighbors<br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Luke+10%3A+25-37&amp;version=KJV\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Who know to love God<\/a><br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Luke+10%3A+25-37&amp;version=KJV\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">And love you<\/a><br \/>Will mock<br \/>A little girl&#8217;s lunch?<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=John+6%3A9-20&amp;version=KJV\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Did God not feed<\/a><br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=John+6%3A9-20&amp;version=KJV\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Five thousand or more<\/a><br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=John+6%3A9-20&amp;version=KJV\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">With<\/a><br \/><a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=John+6%3A9-20&amp;version=KJV\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">A little boy&#8217;s lunch<\/a>?<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Today is a new day.&#8221;<br \/>Another line awaits.<br \/>Another piece of paper.<br \/>Another stamp<br \/>&#8220;A proof of your identity?&#8221;<br \/>Asks the official.<\/p>\n<p>You wonder what he means<br \/>Does not my identity<br \/>Come from God?<br \/>&#8220;Imago Dei&#8221;<br \/>You reply, and get waved away<br \/>With a puzzled frown.<\/p>\n<p>And you wait in line.<br \/>And another.<br \/>And another.
