Different eyes

The world wants young
The world wants pretty
On the gray and old
They have no pity.

Money talks more
Than right or wrong
With people working
From dusk till dawn.

Working for status
Working for fame
Working for stability
We are all part of the game

We trade our bonds
To get more gold
Settling deeper in wealth,
We lose our souls.

We win at church
We do well at play
Friends we catch, as
Placeholders for the day.

When we have it all
We look and wonder -
Why is everyone groaning?
Isn't life about this plunder?

Who can help,
In the lonely hours?
Can Xwitter or bookface,
or the world's greatest powers?

Human help
Goes only so far
Each person concerned
About the state of their car.

For the hurting heart
Or wounded soul
Medicated dreams
Offer only one way to go

Ways of addiction
Ways of escape
The truth forsaken
In favor of the fake

What is truth?
Asked Pilate
As he saw a man
Totally silent

No home, no friends
All had forsaken Him
Instead we all cry, "crucify!"
Can He not silence them?

He says He is the Son of God
Surely He has the ability
To change earthly circumstance
Rather than display this fragility

Why would God be here,
On this earth so obsessed
With survival of the fittest,
Which we live out with zest?

No room for love
No room for compassion
Just enough space
For our various placations

So we put Him on a cross
Because He had us offended
Talking about His Kingdom
That the poor and maimed defended

Jesus died, heartbroken
Our sins upon Him
God's mercy pardoned
Humanity's mistakes

For all who are bewildered
About the state of the world
No drug, no government
Can offer the hope they sell

Sure, pray for your government
And pay your taxes
But don't become prisoner
To traps set by politics

Love the Lord God
With all of your being
Love your neighbor as yourself
Despite what you're seeing

But even if we do our best
We can't access this Kingdom of God
Where the entrance fees is paid
Only by Jesus blood

Nothing and none
Can satisfy our hunger, you know it.
So where does that leave you?
You who seek freedom, but can't seem to find it?

God's wrath is no more
If you choose to believe
That Jesus died for you
Setting you eternally free.

True hope and true peace
Are indeed within our reach
When we kneel and pray
And humbly to God beseech

To wash us clean
By His blood
A seemingly gruesome
But necessary flood

With hearts renewed
And hope retained
We can wipe our tears
And face the same

The same day,
The same world,
The same friends,
The same pearls.

But with different eyes
We see
Jesus Christ
In all that breathes

God's love is there -
For all people need it!
But it seems to be
That there are very few
That want it.

  1. Manu, stunning!

    “God’s love is there –
    For all people need it!
    But it seems to be
    That there are very few
    That want it.”

In the end, we need to be reconciled to what God has created and find the joy with which he has bless us rather than the false gods and idols we have created. Sometimes that feels like looking for a needle in a haystack, while at other times we have fists full of hay to much our gardens! Thank you for your thoughtful reflections!!!
